A different learning experience

With highly skilled experienced tutors and small personal classes we provide a network of responsive quality adult and community education in the Eastern Suburbs.

Adult and Community Education is not like secondary school - in an adult environnment you will treated as an equal.  The special nature of adult leaning is that it reciprocal in  nature.  As an adult learner you have as much to contribute as the tutor.

At PACE we understand adult learners

As adult learners you need to be free to direct yourself. Your tutors should actively involve you as an adult learner in the learning process and serve as facilitators.

Specifically, tutors should get learners input about what topics to cover and let them work on projects that reflect their interests.

As adults, we know you have accumulated a foundation of life experiences and knowledge that may include work-related activities, family responsibilities, and previous education. This needs to be conncted to your learning in the courses or learning activity you choose.

When you enrol in a course, we think you will usually know what goal you want to attain. We will ensure your programme is well organised and has clearly defined learnig outcomes.

Adults must see a reason for learning something. Your learning has to be applicable to your situation to be of value. This means that learning must be related to a setting familiar to learners.

Adults are practical, focusing on the aspects of a lesson most useful to them. They may not be interested in knowledge for its own sake. Tutors must tell participants explicitly how the lesson will be useful to them on the job.

As with all learners, adults need to be shown respect. Tutors should acknowledge the wealth of experiences that adult learners bring to the programme. That means you will be treated as equals in experience and knowledge and your opinions will be valued.
