Adult English Language and Cultural Literacy (AELCL)

A course running for 16 hours a week aimed at new permanent residents or permanent residents that have been in NZ for a while and want to get better at English and understanding the country they live in. We do offer places for non-residents but this study carriers extra cost. These classes carry nationally recognised qualifications and our tutors are professional English language teachers, excelling in Adult teaching. The aim of this course is to make affordable English tuition which is aimed at getting our students integrated and active members of society. This for 2008 costs $200 a term. Student allowance is available as long as students meet the criteria.

As a Community Learning Centre we pride ourselves in continually being responsive to our local and wider community. Our courses, programmes and services come out of research and continual consultation from our communities.  We provide Adult and community learning opportunities, courses and programmes across the eastern suburbs.

We are constantly adding to our website, please keep visiting!

Our courses usually change every three months to maintain this responsiveness and take place at different sites in our local and wider communities.  Our programmes and services are offered in collaboration and partnership with other organisations and institutions. You will find a wide range of courses / programmes and services that bring people together, encourage life long learning, increase work related skills, encourage employment opportunities, and raise foundation skills.

Some carry qualifications, some are provided to make learning enjoyable, but all courses provided have clear learning outcomes, and procedures to make sure that you the learner are getting the best possible learning environment and experience.

We are here to offer learning opportunities in there broadest sense, and work with our communities to make learning more accessible.

Our website also provides information about community learning and good practice.

We have a wide range of further study opportunities and can also provide study advice. Most importantly if we are not offering a course that you want please let us know and we will see if we can offer it.

We pride ourselves in friendly environments that offer a different experience to what many adults might think is education or learning. Our tutors are experts in tutoring Adults and in their fields, and use techniques specific to Adults both young and old.
