About P.A.C.E.

Pegasus Adult and Community Education (PACE) was network of providers in the Eastern Suburbs of Christchurch, committed to providing responsive, quality adult and community education for our communities.

PACE aimed to do this by:

  1. Excellent communication with our communities and students regarding courses / programmes and news.
  2. The best possible quality professional adult tutoring and facilitation
  3. Better consultation and networking with our communities.
  4. Being responsive to requests from our communities.

PACE was formed at the beginning of 2005 from North East Schools Adult and Community Education. This was a successful network in the days prior to and whilst ACE funding was administered by the Tertiary Education Commission. Originally the four main providers of adult and community education in the Eastern suburbs were Aranui High School, Linwood College, Mairehau High School and Shirley Boys High School with over 4000 students.

From 2010 the Government ceased to fund the provision of general Adult & Community Education through these four schools so the programmes offered have been changed significantly.
  • Shirley Boys High School decided to continue to provide a self-funded adult and community education programme as long as it was financially viable.
  • Mairehau High School elected to cease providing adult and community education
  • Linwood College continues to provide the daytime LAMP - Literacy and Maths Programme for adult students
  • Aranui High School continue to provide a limited number of adult and community education programmes.

The PACE vision is still to achieve our main objective of providing responsive, quality adult and community education for our communities although the manner in which we continue to do so has changed significantly.
